Map and routes
Walk Kanto, unlock routes with 10 defeats, and later Fly anywhere.
Moving around
Tap a place on the map to see its card (wild Pokémon, level, rewards, what it takes to open). Press GO — or double-tap — and your trainer walks there along the roads. On a computer the map also zooms with the mouse wheel.
Unlocking new places
Almost every route opens after you defeat 10 Pokémon on the route before it. Some places also need a badge, a cleared dungeon or a story battle — locked places show exactly what’s missing, with progress (for example “Defeat 10 Pokémon on Route 2 (7/10)”).
Routes get harder in story order
Routes are ranked by difficulty, not by number. For route number n in that order:
- Level:
floor(20 · n^(1/2.25))— Route 1 is level 20, Route 23 is level 83 - Base HP:
max(20, floor((100 · n^2.2 / 12)^1.15))— Route 1 has 20 HP, Route 23 about 39,400 - Money per defeat:
max(10, 3n + 5 · n^1.15 ± 25) - Dungeon Tokens per catch:
ceil(6 · (2n / 2.8)^1.08)
Each wild Pokémon’s HP is the route’s base HP adjusted by ±10% for how bulky the species is.
Water Pokémon
Water Pokémon only appear once you have the Super Rod, which you get for defeating 10 Pokémon on Route 12 (routes with only water always show them).
Fly
After the Pokémon Tower, the “HM02 Fly” quest line gives you Fly. With a flying Pokémon at level 30+ and the Thunder Badge you can tap any unlocked town, route or dungeon and fly there at once — across the sea too, once you’ve been to that region. The Sevii Islands are reached by ferry from Vermilion City.
